Local Recreation and What To Do...
There are always exciting activities and adventures at the Lodge, throughout each season!
Mount Engadine Lodge is a place that celebrates nature and adventure. This is a nature-lover's paradise, thick with forests and dozens of creeks that flow into pristine rivers that neighbour the Lodge.
WINTER
Winter is a spectacular time of year to explore the backcountry of Kananaskis and the Rocky Mountains.
There are excellent winter trails right from the Lodge, out into Moose Meadows, or up to Rummel or Tryst Lakes. Ski trails for all levels and abilities can be found nearby.
Throughout the winter, you can venture out on cross-country skis, telemark or touring skis, snowshoes (with or without a snowboard), or go for a stroll down quiet Mount Shark Road.
| There are over 100 km of cross-country ski trails five minutes away in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park. Here, members of the Canadian Olympic Cross Country and Biathlon teams often come to train on first class groomed trails for classic and skate-skiing at Mount Shark Training Center. |

SUMMER
There are several exciting activities and adventures at the Lodge during the Summer season!

During the Summer, you can hike right from the Lodge, or take a short drive to find trails to suit all levels of ability. You can easily lose yourself in the abundant variety of wildflowers, by alpine lakes, on rambling ridge walks, or high on mountain peaks. Chester Lake, Burstall Pass, Commonwealth Meadows, Tent Ridge and Rummel Lake are some of the trails close by.

On select Thursday evenings throughout the months of July and August, following our 7pm dinner service, we are fortunate to have Jay Honeyman discussing his programs at the Karelian Bear Sheparding Institute. Click here, to learn more about our Karelian Bear program.
We are also open for dinner by reservation for people who want to just visit the Lodge and enjoy a fine meal in a beautiful setting. In the summer, moose meadows are full of wildlife (guests have referred to it as the Serengeti of the Canadian Rockies) and in the winter, dinner by candle light is magical. Dinner is $45 per person (taxes and gratuities extra). Call 403-678-4080 and make reservations 24 hours in advance.
It’s not uncommon to see moose, elk, bighorn sheep, coyotes, and mountain goats, along with a large variety of birds, often without stepping off the Lodge's deck.
There are over 100km of trails for hiking and mountain-biking in Spray Valley Provincial Park, and in neighbouring Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, as well as canoeing - kayaking on easily accessible lakes and streams.
| Our staff love to hike, and with advance notice, we can make arrangements to have one of our team accompany you and your party on one of our amazing local hiking adventures. We can also arrange to have a Canadian Mountain Guide (for a fee) accompany your hiking or skiing party. Requests and reservations in advance are required. |

Other summer activities include fishing, photography, bird watching, star gazing, or lazing by the creek. Some may like to swim and play in refreshing mountain lakes and creeks during the hot summer days.

AUTUMN The scenery and quiet of Kananaskis country in the autumn are not to be missed, that magical time when the larches turn from green to gold in late September. The colours of Fall and the quality of the light at this time of year make for a peaceful retreat. |
This is the time of year that all the leaves fall to the ground. Some are big, some are little, some are beautiful and bright.
Millions of trees end the growing season by dropping their leaves to the ground, to prepare for a winter rest. The wind carries some leaves a great distance, other leaves float slowly to the ground below. How many ways do leaves fall?

SPRING When the valleys have lost their snow, there can be amazing spring skiing at higher elevations, while people are hiking at lower elevations. At this time of year you can still expect long days of sunshine and an abundant snow pack for skiing or snowshoeing. |
Spring is a peaceful time of year to create your own wild mountain retreat.
With advance notice we would love to arrange a hiking or fishing guide, or heli-hiking tours, if that is your preference. Any time of the year, enjoy the HOT TUB and WOOD-FIRED SAUNA, and our varied collection of books from our library.

The Canadian Rocky Mountains are one of the world's top destinations for mountaineering & climbing. There are several excellent mountain school & mountain guide services in the area that specialize in guiding & instruction in mountaineering, rock climbing, ice climbing & ski mountaineering.
